Frequently Asked Questions

About the Medical Practice

I already have regular insurance, why should I join a membership-based health program?

Because you want Results.

When you join Midlife reMDy/WEIGHT reMDy, we will create a plan that is personalized to your struggles and your lifestyle. Together we strategize an action plan that makes sense for your life and based on Real Science when it comes weight and the menopause journey.

Do you take insurance?

We do not participate with any insurance. In order to provide this truly personalized, thorough and exceptional care as you need it, Dr. Troutman does not accept insurance.

Our practice model is called direct specialty care meaning our patients pay the doctor directly.

Why do you not participate/take insurance?

We are an insurance-free medical practice. This simply means we will not collect payment from insurances for your care. By having patients pay directly to your doctor for treatment- just like you would pay for any excellent service, this model gives patients access to an unmatched doctor-patient relationship.

Better Care. By having a smaller practice, we can devote more time and attention to each individual. The extra time allows us to do an in-depth look at your particular struggle including the details that are often overlooked.

Whole-person Support. We have group support and self-led modules that can help you outside of the scheduled 1 on 1 visits.

Focused on You. Insurance-based practices need more staff to handle the complications of managing an insurance-based system. We have simplified our system so that office flow exist solely to serve you, our patient.

Everything you pay at Midlife reMDy/WEIGHT reMDy is transparent (there are no hidden fees) so you can make an informed decision regarding your treatment.

Can I use my Health Savings Account (HSA) / Health Flexible Spending Arrangement (FSA) to pay for my medical care?

Individuals can generally use the funds in their FSA/HSA cards for qualified medical expenses.   Medical expenses are the “costs of diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease” which include payments for medical services rendered by a physician. This will apply to the medical care you receive at WEIGHT reMDy.

Please confirm with your employer/HR regarding benefits prior to your appointment.

Can I be reimbursed for some of the costs?

Some insurance plans that include out of network benefits (PPOs) will offer a percentage reimbursement for services rendered outside of their typical network-covered services.

If this is true for you, we are happy to provide you with an invoice that you can submit to your insurance to see if you can get some reimbursement. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that you will receive reimbursement for our services from your insurance as that is completely based on your insurance. Please be aware that most insurances will only reimburse you once you have met your out of network deductible.

Dr. Troutman is considered an out-of-network provider.

Which plan should I choose among your options

It depends what results you want. If you want help with Weight, or help with improving symptoms of Perimenopause /Menopause or if you need help in BOTH.

We have a plan for each Result you want.

If you are interested in help with weight alone (for example if you are a guy) , click here.

When is payment due for service?

There are 2 options.

1 -One time payment of price listed for membership.

2- 3 month payment plan by splitting a total cost over 3 months. The overall total price will be slightly higher than 1 time payment.

I do not have a primary care doctor, can I still be seen?

While I am trained as a Family Medicine Physician, I will be acting as a consultant specialist and I advise that you have your own Primary Care Physician to manage your general health.

Are lab tests and medications included in the cost?

No. However, we can order evidence-based lab tests that are helpful in evaluating your specific health concern. You can get the labs done at any lab provider and these are typically billed through your insurance.

Medications are prescribed based on medical history. Medications are sent to your preferred pharmacy.

We do NOT prescribe compounded anti-obesity medications.

Medications are NOT included in your membership fee. Medication coverage is based on your elected insurance, and we have no ability to change what your insurance will cover as it based entirely on your plan. There are low-cost generic prescriptions that we can prescribe.

Health insurances have made it difficult for patients to have access to medically recommended brand name obesity-care medications.

FDA approved hormone therapy is GENERIC and typically covered by insurances (and typically does not require prior authorizations)

Prior Authorizations. We will be charging a $50 fee for each episode of medication prior authorization. This fee helps offset the cost and time spent completing the paperwork.

I do not live close to your office, can I still be seen?

Dr. Troutman sees patients in person at her Camp Hill office as well as virtually through a HIPAA secure platform suitable for telemedicine.

If you prefer to do your visits completely virtual, that is definitely possible!

There are federal regulations with regards to certain medications we might prescribe that might require an in-person visit. This will be discussed at your Initial Consult.

Frequently Asked Questions

About Hormone Therapy

I am not in menopause yet, will you see me and can you help?

Absolutely! Schedule your initial consultation and let us listen to your story. There will be no gaslighting, no disbelief, no dismissing of symptoms.

Perimenopause and menopause can present with different symptoms outside of the more commonly known hot flashes and irregular periods.

Do you perform well-woman exams and can you be my primary care physician?

Dr. Troutman is considered a consultant specifically for your hormone therapy. She does not perform traditional well-woman exams, pelvic exams or pap smears.

You would need to continue to see your primary care physician or ob-gyn for preventative screenings.

Do you always prescribe hormone therapy?

Menopause Hormone Therapy or MHT is not for everyone.

A comprehensive medical evaluation of your history is very important as well as a discussion of your current symptoms, potential risks and benefits of treatment is part of the shared decision making process. Dr. Troutman shares with you the latest evidence and science regarding MHT and how it can apply to you.

What if my provider says I should not take hormones, are there other options?

Short answer ? Yes. There are non-hormone therapy options available and Dr. Troutman is familiar and can discuss with you as well. But let's talk about it. Set up a consult. There are so many myths, misconceptions and unwarranted fears about MHT.

The unfortunate truth is, most providers don't have the interest or time to evaluate the data available. Not everybody is familiar with the nuances of Menopause Hormone Therapy and Dr. Troutman can walk you through all available options.

What is MHT-Focus Track?

If you are looking for help with treating the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause and are not interested in help with your weight, I would recommend the MHT Focus.

MHT Focus is a 6 month membership where we partner together to create your personalized FDA-approved hormone therapy.

What is the MHT + Weight Track aka Upleveled Midlife?

If you are struggling with perimenopause and menopause symptoms and also would like to get help with with the weight gain that happens in Midlife, I would recommend the Upleveled Midlife Track. This is THE plan to help you feel like yourself again.

The Upleveled Midlife is a 4 month membership where we work together to create your personalized hormone therapy plan AND also work on the weight we gain during perimenopause or menopause. We will work on the different Skills for Meals, Movement ,Mind and Meds.

What type of hormones do you prescribe?

Dr. Troutman prescribes FDA-approved hormone therapy options. She incorporates guidelines from ACOG (American College of OB-Gyn) and NAMS (North American Menopause Society) now known as Menopause Society.

The prescriptions for Menopause hormone therapy (MHT) are sent to your local pharmacy. Most insurances will cover prescribed MHT. There are both generic and brand name options available. These are all discussed with you at your appointments.

She can prescribe Estrogen, Progesterone and Testosterone if medically appropriate.

Do you prescribe testosterone pellets?

No.

Dr. Troutman follows guidelines from the Menopause Society which DOES NOT recommend pellets due to the spiking levels that occur which causes supraphysiologic (above the normal range) levels.

Is hormone therapy safe?

For most healthy women under age 60 or within 10 years of menopause, HT is considered safe and effective. Like any treatment, risks and benefits must be assessed individually.

Will hormone therapy help with weight loss?

While HT is not a weight loss medication, it can reduce symptoms that contribute to weight gain (like poor sleep, low energy, and insulin resistance). When paired with the 4M Pillar approach of Meals, Movement, Mind and Meds, many women find it easier to manage their weight.

What are the risks of hormone therapy?

Risks vary based on patient age, health, and type of hormone therapy prescribed.. The possible risks are low in younger women and can often be minimized with personalized therapy. Dr. Troutman gives you a personalized risk-benefit discussion so you can make an informed decision based on science-backed evidence.

How do I know if hormone therapy is right for me?

It starts with a personalized conversation.

Dr. Troutman is a physician with specialized training in midlife care and will review your symptoms, labs, medical history, and personal goals to create a treatment plan that fits you.

How can physician specializing in Culinary Medicine help me?

🥗 Food is more than fuel—it’s medicine.

Being Board Certified in Culinary Medicine means I’ve been trained in the science of how food impacts health—and how to turn that science into delicious, practical meals you can actually enjoy.

It’s not about fad diets or rigid rules. It’s about:

✅ Using evidence-based nutrition to target inflammation, hormones, and metabolism
✅ Translating complex science into strategies for your kitchen
✅ Helping you build a way of eating that supports your health for life (yes, even through menopause!)

Because the right foods can be your most powerful prescription.

What qualifications do you have?

Dr. Caissa Troutman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) and previously served as Medical Director of Wellspan Health Medical Weight Management Program.

Dr. Troutman is also a Certified Culinary Medicine Specialist (CCMS) . Culinary medicine is an evidence-based field in medicine that blends the art of food and cooking with the science of medicine. It is aimed at helping people reach good personal medical decisions about accessing and eating high-quality meals that helps prevent and treat disease and restore well-being.

As a Board-Certified Menopause Society physician, Dr. Troutman is very familiar with the hormonal changes that can affect weight in women going through perimenopause and menopause.

Dr. Troutman is also a CDCES or Certified Diabetes Educator.

What is the 4 Pillar Framework ?

This is the core of how we approach treating a medical condition like obesity. We breakdown healthful Nutrition into a personalized plan that you can do long term. We talk about barriers and how we can strategize solutions to get you started or enhance your current Physical Activity regimen. We create Behavior Change by managing our Mindset (aka Thoughts) and creating repetitive behaviors (aka Habits) on sleep optimization and stress resilience. We facilitate the changes we want to create by utilizing Medications to treat the biological and hormonal dysregulation that makes it hard to lose weight long term.

What are the 4 Ms?

The 4 Ms stand for Meals, Movement, Mind and Medications which are the same 4 Pillars discussed but just easier to remember!

As a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), I’m nationally certified in helping women prevent, manage, and even reverse insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes—using strategies grounded in science, not fads.

For midlife women, hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can make blood sugar harder to control—leading to stubborn belly weight, energy crashes, and increased health risks.
